Line Slope Finder is a free website about one topic: the slope and the equation of a straight line. It has two parts.
- The Slope Finder, a tool that works out the slope and equation of a line from two points on a grid, from coordinates you type in, or from a photo of a graph.
- Lessons that explain the ideas behind it, with worked examples and practice problems.
Who it is for
Line Slope Finder is written for secondary school, high school and college students learning about straight-line graphs, for parents helping with homework, and for teachers who want a quick way to show an example on screen.
Why it shows the working
An answer on its own doesn’t help you learn. The Slope Finder shows each step: the slope formula with your numbers in it, how the y-intercept is found, and the equation in slope-intercept, point-slope and standard form. Slopes are kept as exact fractions, such as 2/3 rather than 0.6667, because that is how most teachers expect the answer.
Your privacy
The Slope Finder runs entirely in your web browser. The points you enter and any photo you use are never uploaded to our server. You can read more in our privacy policy.
How the site is funded
Line Slope Finder is free to use and is supported by advertising. Ads are kept away from the graph so they don’t get in the way of using the tool.
